EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing):

This is a modality of psychotherapy that enables individuals to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the results of traumatic or disturbing  life events. A multitude of studies have shown that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that normally would take years to make a difference. Upon completion of EMDR therapy, a client feels empowered by the very experiences that once debilitated them. The client’s thoughts, feelings and behavior are the indicators of emotional health and resolution.

The amount of treatment varies from client to client, depending on their own unique situation. EMDR works with past present and future. The work is within the brain’s information processing system. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound can grow and cause intense levels of suffering. The goal is to process the unfavorable experiences that are causing problems, and to include new experiences that are needed for optimal health.

Processing does not mean “talking. Processing means setting up a state of learning that will allow understanding of experiences that are causing problems. Once processed and understood, they will store properly in the brain and no longer cause any distress.

This process is done using bilateral stimulation via visual, sensual or auditory. We choose what works best for each individual.

EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy):

This is a short-term (usually 8-20 sessions) collaborative, non-blaming approach to working with couples and families. The EFT model is based on the belief that all human beings need safe secure emotional connections in their close relationships. Distress in a relationship results from a perceived threat to the connection. An EFT Therapist helps couples and families stop negative interaction and create communication to strengthen the relationship. EFT has a 90% success rate throughout many cultures with all types of families and relationships.

Dr. Sue Johnson (Founder of EFT) does a great job explaining EFT in the clip below.
